First letter from the GEOEO expedition
Welcome to the KTH blog almost posted in real time from the Icebreaker Oden on its way to Victoria fjord. This is an expedition with the objective to study melting of the Greenland icesheet with a focus on glacier and ocean interaction. There are several research teams onboard preparing for e.g. coring, geochemistry, water sampling, multibeam surveys and water column measurements. KTHs task is to boldly go where Oden cannot go, using the underwater robot LoLo developed at KTH.
Let me introduce the KTH crew:
Clemens Deutsch is our postdoc at Marine Systems. He has been working day and night for one year with putting the underwater robot LoLo into shape for the Arctic. Then we have Niklas Rolleberg who is our research engineer who knows every code line and screw onboard. Last and least me, Peter Sigray, who is the KTH-coordinator and available hand on deck.
DAY 1
With the help of the Swedish Airforce we had an early departure from Arlanda with destination to Pittufik. The first leg of the flight went to Reykjavík where the plan was to refuel before lift-off. However, due to foggy condition at the Thule base we had to stay one night on Iceland.
