Day 8: Getting closer to the Victoria fjord

We have struggled to get through the ice sheet. Some nights we have been standing still to wait for openings, but we are getting slowly to our end target, the Victoria fjord. The weather has been excellent with sun out part of the day, every day. This makes work on deck easier. Today we took the helicopter for a combined scientific and reconnaissance tour to the Victora fjord. The flight took all in all about four hours. The inlet of the fjord is partly covered with ice so if we can make it there, interesting experiments can start and we might deploy our underwater robot, LoLo. We manage to launch six XBTs from the helicopter to measure temperature profiles from the mouth to the inner part of the fjord.
