Season’s Greetings from Swedish Maritime Robotics Centre (SMaRC)

As the festive season approaches, we would like to extend our warmest Christmas greetings to you. Reflecting on this and the past 7 years, we are grateful for the incredible journey we’ve embarked on together.

A Year of Engagement and Progress 2023 has been a year of intense activities and significant milestones for SMaRC. With our engaging Industry Dialog Days, workshops that brought together our partners in a collaborative space, strengthening our commitment to knowledge transfer, we have built new ideas and collaborations, strengthening our bonds and commitment to knowledge transfer. These sessions have been a testament to the power of shared vision and collective effort.

A highlight was the SMaRC Day at Kastellholmen in Stockholm. We were honored to host eminent keynote speakers: Jakob Granit, Director General of the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management; Mattias Rust, Head of Section at the Ministry of Infrastructure; and Patrik Gardesten, Deputy Chief of the Navy, Brigadier General. Their insights, combined with the presence of about 80 national and international visitors, made the event a resounding success.

Our demonstration period at the scenic Askö Marine Research Station was another remarkable achievement. It was a privilege to showcase our research to both partners and external visitors, underlining the practical impact of our work.

A New Chapter Begins with the advent of SMaRC2.0. This year, we’ve worked diligently to secure the valuable knowledge, competence, and infrastructure developed within SMaRC. We are thrilled to announce that the KTH Rector signed a declaration to initiate SMaRC 2.0 in early 2024. This new phase symbolizes our continued commitment to pioneering research in maritime robotics. We are humbled and incredibly proud to be part of this endeavor together with all of you.

Celebrating Academic Excellence, We take immense pride in congratulating our exceptional Ph.D. students who have successfully defended their research this year. Your dedication and achievements embody the spirit of SMaRC and inspire us all.

We wish you all Happy Holidays,

Ivan Stenius and Peter Sigray
